Block Reward
A block reward is a set amount of cryptocurrency that a miner receives after successfully verifying and adding a new block of transactions to the blockchain. For Bitcoin, the block reward is currently 12.5 BTC. This number will halve every 210,000 blocks, or approximately every 4 years. The block reward is how new Bitcoin enters circulation and has an inverse relationship with the cryptocurrency's price. When Bitcoin was first created, the block reward was 50 BTC. |
