Byzantium Fork

Byzantium Fork is a blockchain update that improves security, privacy, and scalability. The Byzantium Fork also known as the Constantinople Hard Fork, is a planned hard fork of the Ethereum blockchain. The fork was initially planned to occur in November of 2017 but was postponed due to an unforeseen software bug. The fork will now occur at block number 4,370,000 which is expected to be mined on January 16, 2019. The Byzantium Fork is a significant upgrade to the Ethereum network as it introduces a number of new features and improvements. The most notable changes are the introduction of Zk-SNARKs privacy technology, an increase to the gas limit, and the removal of the Difficulty Bomb.

The Byzantium Fork is a highly anticipated event as it marks the first stage of Ethereum's transition from a Proof of Work to a Proof of Stake consensus algorithm. The fork will also lay the groundwork for future scaling solutions such as sharding and Plasma.
