Central Ledger

A central ledger is a bookkeeping tool used to record economic transactions. Transactions are recorded in a central ledger through the use of double-entry bookkeeping. This means that each transaction is recorded in two places, with a debit being recorded in one account and a credit being recorded in another account. The central ledger is the primary record of all economic transactions that take place within a business. All other financial records, such as the general ledger and the trial balance, are derived from the central ledger.
